The Foundation
As we stand as the custodians of the art of tailoring, we proudly present the story of Mr. Shridhar Racherla who came to Mumbai in 1969 to lay the foundation for Modisto.
Starting his tailoring journey at the tender age of 10 under his father’s guidance, Mr. Racherla’s life has been a testament to lifelong learning and passion for the craft.
The Struggle and The Decision
Mr. Racherla, initially a financer and master cutter, worked alongside numerous tailors. Despite his exceptional skills, he found his earnings and career growth limited.
Driven by an unwavering passion and expertise, Mr. Racherla made the bold decision to carve his own path in the world of tailoring. He chose to be his own boss, transforming his destiny with each stitch he sewed. He started with a store in South Bombay. A formal suit was the first to take shape a symbol of our enduring legacy.
Rising Through Challenges
Despite facing initial hardships, arriving in Mumbai with nothing but his dreams, his perseverance never wavered.
By 1975, Mr. Racherla was at the helm of Modisto in South Bombay, steering it through what would be known as the golden era of tailoring. The store thrived, bustling with activity from the skilled hands of 22 Karigars.
The Test of Time
The 1990s posed a formidable challenge with the surge of readymade garments, threatening the very essence of bespoke tailoring.
Many tailors faced oblivion during this era. However, Mr. Racherla’s resilience saw Modisto through these turbulent times. He witnessed the ebb and flow of the industry, as the allure of readymade garments eventually gave way to a renewed appreciation for the personalized touch of bespoke tailoring.

As trends shifted, people began to rediscover the unique joy and satisfaction found in custom-tailored garments.
Modisto, under Mr. Racherla’s stewardship, stood steadfast, welcoming clients back to the fundamental pleasures of tailor-made apparel. Today, Mr. Shridhar Racherla stands not just as a tailor but as an embodiment of passion, resilience, and the enduring art of tailoring.
